16 Celebrity Friendships That Went From Sweet To Sour

October 12, 2017 Posted by Unknown No comments

When romantic relationships come to an end, it can send those involved into an emotional tailspin filled with wallowing, lashing out, and weepy nights spent all alone. Dealing with the end of a friendship can also bring up similar feelings — especially when you must part ways with someone you’ve grown up with and have come to love like family.

While non-celebs can grieve the end of their friendships in the privacy of their homes, celebrities are often forced to see their lives play out in the spotlight. From Twitter spats to diss tracks, celebrity friendship breakups are often put on display for the entire world to see.

Fans and other celebs take sides and drag out all of the ugly facets of a crumbling friendship like a real-life soap opera. From Taylor Swift and Katy Perry to JAY-Z and Kanye West, check out 16 iconic celebrity friendships that went up in flames.

1. JAY- Z & Kanye West

Despite their successful 2011 collaborative album Watch the Throne, the bromance between JAY-Z and Kanye West began fading shortly after the duo ended their tour. West’s behavior became increasingly erratic, and neither the 4:44 rapper nor his mega-famous wife BeyoncĂ© attended Ye’s wedding to reality star Kim Kardashian. Things took a turn for the worse last year during West’s Saint Pablo Tour where he called out JAY-Z and BeyoncĂ©. He then went on to file a lawsuit against JAY-Z’s streaming company Tidal. Recently, on his song “Kill Jay Z” the Blueprint MC addressed the ongoing feud. He rapped,

I know people backstab you, I feel bad too/ But this ‘f— everybody’ attitude ain’t natural/ But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe/ But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye/ You gave him 20 million without blinkin’/ He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f— was he thinkin’?/ ‘F— wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’/ But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”

JAY-Z later told Rap Radar, “That really hurt me, you can’t bring my kid or my wife into it. … We’ve gotten past bigger issues, but you brought my family into it, now it’s a problem with me.”

2. Katy Perry & Rihanna

As the Witness singer and the ANTIartist began shooting up the charts, they formed a bond with one another. Unfortunately, in 2009, after Chris Brown violently beat Rihanna, she decided to give the Privacy singer another chance. Perry refused to watch her good friend get hurt again, so the duo began to drift apart.

3. Demi Lovato & Miley Cyrus

The Camp Rock and Hannah Montanaalums grew up together as Disney Channel stars, and they adored each other in the beginning. Sadly, all of those warm and fuzzy feelings had dissolved by 2014 when Lovato said of Cyrus in an interview, “It’s life, and people change. I don’t have anything in common with her anymore. I wish her the best.”

4. Paris Hilton & Kim Kardashian-West

These days it seems almost laughable that there was a time when Paris Hilton was more famous than Kim K. Hilton and Kardashian-West grew up in the same circles and, at one point, the married mother of two was even Hilton’s stylist. However, when Keeping Up with the Kardashians came catapulting (with the help of that sex-tape) into our world in 2007, Hilton became an afterthought. The hotel heiress was butt hurt for a long time and, in an interview, she once said Kardashian-West’s derriere looked like, “cottage cheese inside a big trash bag.” Yikes.

5. Lauren Conrad & Heidi Montag

“You know what you did!” That line marked the end of a friendship that rang out across our television screens. During the third season of The Hills, we watched the demise of Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag’s friendship. Apparently, Montag and her now-husband Spencer Pratt spread a rumor that LC and her then-beau Jason Wahler had made a sex tape. The blogs went wild, and eventually, LC left the reality series. It took years before Pratt and Montag finally admitted to spreading the lies, but the former roomies and BFFs were never the same.

6. Katy Perry & Taylor Swift

From “Bad Blood” to “Swish Swish” and now “Look What You Made Me Do,” Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have taken their long-standing feud to the music charts. Just a few years ago, the songstresses were pretty much joined at the hip, but in 2012 things between the two megastars went way left. Apparently, some of Swift’s dancers left her Red tour early to join Perry’s Prismatic World Tour, and Swift was enraged. In 2014, Swift told Rolling Stone, “I know people will make it this big girl-fight thing. But I just want people to know it’s not about a guy. The beef was purely professional.” In response, Perry tweeted, “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing.” It probably didn’t help that they both dated John Mayer at one point — ick.

7. Jill Zarin & Bethenny Frankel

During the early days of the The Real Housewives of New York City, Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel were BFFs who summered together and told each other everything. However, by Season 3, their friendship began coming apart at the seams. Frankel was pregnant, planning a wedding and her business ventures were taking off. Her various story lines made her the star of RHONY, and it seemed like Zarin couldn’t handle it. In fact, Frankel later told US Weekly, “If she’s saying that I told her she needs to get a hobby, then that’s accurate. I don’t regret anything I’ve said.”

8. Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato

These Disney starlets were super tight for a very long time, even starring in the film Princess Protection Programtogether. Unfortunately, another star seemed to cause a rift in their longtime friendship. When Lovato was asked about her relationship with Gomez in 2010, she responded by saying, “Ask Taylor.” (She meant Taylor Swift if you didn’t catch that.)

9. Gwyneth Paltrow & Winona Ryder

Back in the ’90s, Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder found themselves dating Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, respectively. Since the ladies were dating BFFs, they became pretty tight as well. Everything between the two actresses seemed to be going well until Paltrow booked the role of Viola inShakespeare in Love over Ryder. She also won an Oscar for her work on the film. After that, nothing was ever the same between the duo. In 2015, Paltrow told Howard Stern, that she never stole the role from the Stranger Things actress, “That’s an urban myth. I swear to God I did not,” she said.

10. Brody Jenner & Spencer Pratt

The ladies of The Hills weren’t the only ones who watched their friendships come to a close on reality TV. The plug was pulled on Pratt and Jenner’s friendship after violent outbursts, and erratic behavior got Pratt booted from the reality series. Jenner said later, “Lately, it’s hard for me — even as someone who used to be best friends with him — to see what’s real and what’s not as far as he goes.”

11. Gwyneth Paltrow & Madonna

About a decade ago the actress and the music icon seemed to be bosom buddies, especially when they bonded over using the same trainer, Tracy Anderson. For whatever reason, Madonna decided to part ways with Anderson and Paltrow was not pleased. She even took to her lifestyle blog Goop to express her dismay. TheIron Man actress asked her followers what to do when “you don’t like a friend anymore.” She suggested that her friendship with Madonna left her feeling “drained, empty and belittled.” An insider also told US Weekly, “They don’t speak. I can’t tell you exactly why they had the falling out, but Gwyneth can be jealous and competitive.”

12. Kevin Smith & Ben Affleck

The Justice League actor and the infamous director became fast friends in the ’90s when Smith cast Affleck in his film, Mallrats. Many collaborations between the actor/director followed, but after Affleck began dating his now ex-wife Jennifer Garner, the guys’ friendship was no more. According to Smith, Garner was never a big fan of his. In 2014, Smith addressed the feud saying, “I have not been [close with him] in decades. That’s old Ben. He’s got a wife that don’t care for me at all. And plus, honestly, he probably don’t care for me at all anymore.”

13. Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie

It seems like a lifetime ago when Hilton and Richie were living it up on their infamous reality show, The Simple Life. On the series, the ladies were obsessed with one another but as their fame rose, so did jealousy and resentment. In 2005, Hilton told People, “It’s no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends. Nicole knows what she did, and that’s all I’m ever going to say about it.” In 2014, Richie also commented publically, saying the ladies had patched things up. “The short answer to this is, I haven’t spoken to her in a while, but we are very good friends. I love her, and I love her family. I have a lot of respect for her.”

14. Tori Spelling & Tiffani Thiessen

Though these 90210 actresses had been tight for decades, that all changed when Spelling had an affair with and later married her now-husband, Dean McDermott. Spelling spoke with Ryan Secrest about the fallout saying, “All my cast members hate me. All of a sudden I marry Dean, and I don’t know what happened. I lost all my cast members.” Speaking about Thiessen specifically, Spelling added, “She doesn’t talk to me anymore.”

15. Heather Locklear & Denise Richards

Watching your BFF date your ex-husband would make anyone want to vomit. But alas, that’s the situation Locklear and Richards found themselves in when Richards began dating Bon Jovi guitarist and Locklear’s ex-husband Richie Sambora. The ladies have patched things up these days, but it was a rough road for awhile back there.

16. Jennifer Lopez & Eva Longoria

The Selena star and the Desperate Housewives actress were two peas in a pod until 2008, when photos of Longoria sitting on Lopez’s then-husband Marc Anthony’s lap surfaced on the internet. After that, J.Lo began to distance herself from her friend. The friendship moved beyond repair the next year when Anthony and Lopez divorced, and Anthony turned to Longoria to cry on her shoulder.
