In a new cover story for Rolling Stone, we were given a better glimpse inside The Migos. That includes rapper Offset, born Kiari Cephus, and his thoughts on his relationship with Cardi B. We’ve heard her defend and laud Offset time and time again, despite cheating rumors, all while he has remained pretty quiet vocally. The 26-year-old has, however, allowed grand gestures to speak for him, from the tattoo of her name on his neck to proposing to her in front of the world at a concert in Philly back in October. As he put it, he popped the question in such a major way so “she wouldn’t think I was playing.”
“Let the world see that sh-t,” he said. “I must have spent half a million on that [ring].”
But if you ask him, Offset will say the he was initially drawn to Cardi due to her fast ascent to stardom. He went out of his way to have a dinner set up in New York so he could meet her.
“I was like, ‘Damn, I am on her!’ ” he said. “I am like, ‘Sh-t, I like Cardi B!'” The rapper, always one for a grand gesture, said their first date was at the Super Bowl.
“That’s a power move!”
Nearly a year after they met and had their first date, they are now engaged to be married, and Rolling Stone couldn’t help but ask the million dollar question of why exactly he wanted to marry her. He has never come off as super expressive or mushy when it comes to her, so his answer didn’t stray to far from that. There was no mention of the type of woman she is away from the spotlight. Instead, he made it clear that he respects her hustle.
“She is real solid, came from where I came from, did what I did. She’s herself, man,” he said. “I seen her develop from the trenches all the way up, and I like how she did it. I respect her grind as a woman. She came to the game with some gangsta sh-t. I like that. I f–k with her. That’s my baby.”
But as far as wedding planning, Offset said they don’t have time for all of that right now.
“We ain’t, we ain’t planning it right now,” he said. “We chilling. We don’t got time for that right now.”
“It’s my real life,” he added, reiterating that they’re going to take their time after being asked why they were dragging their feet now. “It ain’t no gig. It ain’t no f–king game, you know what I’m saying? It ain’t no game. It’s my life.”
